Flickering Lights
A downloadable game for Windows
You're in a maze with a map and a flashlight. You must light all 8 candles, but each one will make the monster more powerful.
Good luck!

Controls:
- WASD / Arrow Key: Move
- Shift: Run
- Mouse: Look around
- Left Click / E: Light a candle
- Right Click: Turn the lamp on or off
- Esc Key: Pause
Tips:
- The maze is divided into 81 sections. Your position is indicated by a small arrow. The red sections on the map correspond to sections containing a candle (they will turn green once the candle is lit). The outer edge of the maze has no obstacles; you can go there to move around freely without being hindered.
- Try to locate the monster by watching the ceiling lights (the dimmer they are, the closer the monster is). If your flashlight also starts to dim, the monster is very close.
- The monster becomes a bit stronger with each candle that is lit, or if you take too long to light them. Plan the shortest possible route for the last candles, as the monster will be especially dangerous at that stage.
- You can run for up to 30 seconds at a time. Once you stop running, it takes 1.5 seconds before your stamina starts regenerating. Avoid sprinting in short bursts to minimize this penalty. If you stay still, your stamina regenerates twice as fast as if you were walking.
- The monster doesn't chase you continuously; if it's not after you, there's no point in running. Save your stamina for later.
If you're curious (and preferably after a few attempts to avoid spoilers), check out the "read_me" file in the game folder. You'll find all the details about the maze generation and the monster's behavior ;)
About me and this project:
Hi! My name is Vivien Peux. My main area of interest is immunology, but as you can probably guess, I also love programming!
This project is the result of countless hours of work (though, to be fair, experienced programmers could have done it in much less time). Before this, my only real programming experience was a simple arcade-style video game I made in Python with pygame. So I discovered C# and Unity with this project.
I don't claim that my game is a masterpiece, and I don't hide the fact that I was inspired by an iconic horror game saga that fans will easily recognize. That said, I’ve reworked things in my own way and I believe casual players will appreciate the simplicity of the game, while more dedicated players will enjoy the challenging task of lighting all 8 candles.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy playing my game as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for reading, and have fun!
Vivien

To play, you need to unzip the folder and launch the "Flickering Lights" application. Your antivirus software might not like this unknown ".exe" file from the internet, sorry about that...
Enjoy!
